Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expects "a strong September for Ukraine", including key decisions by Western allies regarding the supply of important weapons and equipment to Kiev.
Zelensky's statement came hours after warnings of Russian airstrikes were sounded across Ukraine and authorities announced they had destroyed several Moscow cruise missiles.
In a Telegram post, Zelensky said he expects "new defense packages for Ukrainian soldiers" to arrive in the coming weeks.
"Artillery, armored vehicles, air defense systems and missiles and necessary equipment," he wrote.
"Our partners have been informed about our needs. We are waiting for them to make decisions," the Ukrainian president added.
According to Zelensky, a united world "is stronger than any aggressor. In September, we will be more united." Zelensky's announcement came hours after the Ukrainian military said it had destroyed four Russian cruise missiles. Authorities in Kiev said they have destroyed all the missiles launched towards the Ukrainian capital.
The Ukrainian army also said it is continuing its counteroffensive in Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia region. This important city was taken by Russia shortly after Moscow launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
