After a week of extremely high temperatures, Italy is engulfed by bad weather. Storms with torrential rain, lightning and strong winds have mainly affected the northern region of the Lombardy country, causing extensive damage.
Hundreds of residential roofs were damaged due to strong winds.
There were also problems in transportation. The powerful storm that hit Milan created problems in the circulation of trams, due to fallen branches on the cables of the electrical network.
Many lines were diverted. A tree blown down by the wind ended up on the tracks of the railway line in Pisogne, interrupting the movement of trains for several hours. Several other lines were also suspended.
In one of the municipalities near Milan, a tree ended up on the roof of the civil hospital intensive care unit, the emergency entrance was blocked and patients were forced to enter from the basement. Most of the city remained without electricity. Some cultural monuments are also reported to have been damaged.
However, fortunately so far there are no casualties.
