Erdogan's main adviser on foreign policy, Akif Çağatay Kılıç, has given details about the meeting that is expected to take place tomorrow between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with Turkish TV channel A Haber, he said the two leaders would focus on the Black Sea wheat deal during their meeting on Monday, as Turkey seeks to bring Moscow back into the deal, he suggested.
" We play a leading role here. We see strong support from around the world for the realization of the wheat corridor. The current status of the wheat deal will be discussed at the summit on Monday. We are cautious, but we hope to succeed because this is a situation that affects the whole world ," he said.
Restoring the grain deal is vital, as the Russians do not allow Ukrainian ships loaded with grain to cross the Black Sea. Russian drones today struck port infrastructure on the Danube River critical to Ukraine's grain exports, injuring at least two people in the attack in southern parts of the Odesa region.
The Danube has become Ukraine's main grain export route since July, when Russia pulled out of a UN-Turkey-brokered deal that had given safe passage to Kiev's exports of grains, oilseeds and oils. plants through the Black Sea.
President Erdogan will try to restore the wheat agreement again in an attempt to avoid a food crisis in the 3rd world countries.
