Speaking to Italian journalists after the meeting in London, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni described the talks as a "very delicate, complex" situation, saying the main goal for her was to prevent the West from being divided over the resolution of the crisis.
She praised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his "rational" analysis despite the explosive Oval Office meeting on Friday and said he was seeking a solution to the situation.
Meloni said there was no single specific plan yet for the deployment of troops, but more general ideas from the UK and France that still need to be discussed further, but she confirmed that there are no plans to send Italian troops to Ukraine.
Meloni added that the focus was on finding a fair path, a "sustainable" peace, calling on leaders to "think outside the box" about possible transatlantic solutions that do not necessarily include NATO membership.
She also expressed her skepticism about the idea of a European nuclear umbrella, warning that it could lead to a "disengagement" from the US.
