An alliance of around 35 countries will discuss plans to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting will take place today via video conference at the level of foreign ministers and is being organized at the initiative of Britain.
The meeting will examine diplomatic and political measures that can be taken to reopen this critical sea route for navigation.
The US will not participate in this conference, while Donald Trump has made it clear that the responsibility for opening the Strait of Hormuz does not lie with the US, but with all countries that buy oil from the Gulf.
This alliance includes those countries that recently signed a joint statement at the level of heads of state expressing their willingness to contribute to "appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz." Among the participating countries are Britain, France, Germany, Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Greece.
Iran says the strait remains closed to "enemies of the country."
