Mao Ning, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, called on all parties involved in the war against Iran to stop military operations, following US President Donald Trump's threat of severe attacks on the Islamic Republic in the coming weeks.
"Military means cannot effectively solve the problem, and escalating conflicts does not serve the interests of either side," Mao said at a press conference, calling on "the parties involved to immediately stop military operations."
Speaking to reporters, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said that the root cause of the unrest in the Strait of Hormuz is illegal military actions at sea, adding that the parties should try to avoid more serious impacts on the global economy and energy security.
United States President Donald Trump declared that "our enemies are losing and America is winning," during the launch of a speech to the nation regarding the military operation codenamed "Epic Fury."
In his speech, Trump defended the decision to declare war on Iran, describing the Tehran regime as "murderous" and blaming it for thousands of deaths among protesters over the years.
He stressed that the American intervention has significantly weakened Iran's military capabilities and limited the nuclear threat.
Trump stressed that Tehran cannot be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
"Over the past four weeks, our armed forces have achieved swift, decisive and overwhelming victories, victories the world has never seen before," he declared, describing the bombings as extraordinary military successes.
The US president expressed optimism about achieving strategic objectives, saying the US is close to achieving them. He also asked for patience from American citizens, considering the war an "investment" in the country's future.
In a warning tone, Trump declared that the attacks would intensify in the coming weeks.
"We will hit them very hard over the next two to three weeks. We will return them to the Stone Age," he said, adding that if a deal is not reached, the US could simultaneously strike Iran's energy infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Iran has rejected a peace plan proposed by the US, which envisaged giving up its nuclear program and limiting ballistic missiles.
Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, confirmed that Washington has presented a 15-point plan to Tehran, but without providing further details on its content.
In his statements, Trump did not mention Iran's initial rejection of the plan or the decision to deploy ground troops to the Middle East. He emphasized that "the ball is now in Iran's court" and warned of serious consequences if a ceasefire is not reached.
"If they don't do this, we are their worst nightmare. We will just keep destroying them, without stopping," Trump said.
