Meeting in Islamabad/ Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt demand end to war

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt held joint talks in Islamabad on Sunday to explore concrete ways to end the conflict in the Middle East, amid escalating tensions between the US, Israel and Iran, Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said.

According to his statement, the four countries expressed confidence in Pakistan's mediating role, while China has fully supported the initiative for the possible organization of talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad.

Sources familiar with the discussions told Reuters that one of the main issues was the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, a key route for global energy supplies. Some of the proposals have already been conveyed to Washington.

According to a Pakistani source, the proposals, including those submitted by Egypt, have been sent in advance to the White House and include tariff models similar to those of the Suez Canal.

Two other Pakistani sources told Reuters that Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia have discussed the possibility of creating a consortium to manage oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz and have asked Pakistan to participate. However, according to another source, Islamabad has not been formally invited and is not expected to join.

The same proposal has also been discussed with the US and Iran. Pakistani sources confirmed that the army chief, General Asim Munir, has been in regular contact with US Vice President JD Vance.

So far, the Foreign Ministries of Egypt and Pakistan have not commented on these developments, while the White House and Saudi authorities did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A Turkish diplomatic source told Reuters that Ankara's priority remains achieving a ceasefire, stressing that ensuring safe passage for ships could serve as an important step in building trust between the parties.
