Declared "non grata," Iranian ambassador refuses to leave Lebanon
Mohammad Reza Sheibani

Iran's ambassador to Lebanon refuses to leave the country, despite the Lebanese authorities' official decision to declare him "persona non grata" and expel him within the specified deadline.

According to an Iranian diplomatic source, Ambassador Mohammad Reza Sheibani will remain in Lebanon, defying the Lebanese Foreign Ministry's decision.

Foreign media report that this stance is also linked to political support from important figures and groups in the country.

"The ambassador will remain in Lebanon in accordance with the wishes of Nabih Berri and Hezbollah," the diplomatic source was quoted as saying.

The decision to expel him has been openly opposed by Hezbollah and the Amal movement, led by parliament speaker Nabih Berri.

In protest against this decision, both political forces boycotted a cabinet session this week, further deepening the political crisis in the country.

On the other hand, the Lebanese Foreign Ministry justifies the decision with the ambassador's statements, which according to it "interfered in the internal politics" of the country.
