Trump announced, during his joint press conference with Putin, that “great progress” had been made, but acknowledged that “there’s no deal until there’s a deal” on the ceasefire.
The president added that he would rate the meeting a 10 out of 10 because he and Putin had gotten along very well, and said he was pulling back on Russian sanctions for the time being.
Putin and Trump were joined at the meeting by Secretary Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Witkoff on the U.S. side, and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and political adviser Yury Ushakova on the Russian side.
Trump gave Putin a warm welcome as he landed at the base, with a red carpet, a friendly handshake and even a flyover by B-2 bombers and F-35 fighter jets.
