The head of Iran's National Security Council, Ali Larijani, warned US President Donald Trump to be careful, hinting that he could become a target of attacks. The reaction came after Trump's statements about serious consequences if Iran interferes with oil traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Larijani wrote on the social network X that Iran is not afraid of Washington's threats. He emphasized that figures more powerful than Trump have not been able to defeat Iran and urged the US president to be careful.
"Even those greater than you could not eliminate the Iranian nation. Take care of yourselves," Larijani said.
This is the second time in as many days that the Iranian official has suggested that Trump could be targeted. A few days ago he stated that the US president must pay the price for the attacks that the United States and Israel carried out against Iran.
Trump responded curtly to these statements. He said he did not know who they were talking about and that Larijan's comments did not matter to him.
The controversy is related to a previous warning by Trump on social media. The US president stated that Iran would face much greater blows if it tried to block the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to him, such an action would lead to the destruction of targets that could paralyze Iran's ability to rebuild.
Meanwhile, US authorities have previously filed charges of Iran-linked plots against Trump. In November 2024, the Justice Department announced that it had uncovered and thwarted a plot to assassinate the US president before that year's presidential election.
US national security officials have stated that this case was one of several uncovered plots related to attempts to attack Trump.
The exchange of statements between Iranian officials and the American president comes at a time of high tension between the two countries, while the issue of security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the main points of conflict.
