Donald Trump has denied reports in the Wall Street Journal that he has approved plans for an attack on Iran but is awaiting final orders.
The newspaper wrote that the former president has signaled to his aides that he is ready for action, but wants to see first whether Tehran will give up its nuclear program.
But in a brief response on his platform, Truth Social, Trump declared: " The Wall Street Journal has no idea what I think about Iran ."
This message clearly shows that Trump wants to maintain an ambiguous and flexible stance on a delicate issue.
Why does this ambiguity serve Trump? According to Sky News US correspondent Mark Stone, the ambiguity is strategic: Trump's support base is divided between those who seek military intervention and those who do not want another war for the US. By not positioning himself clearly, Trump leaves himself room to maneuver politically – either as "the strongman who stops Iran" or as "the patriot who protects America from wars".
