The political crisis in the British government has deepened significantly after the resignation of Health Minister Wes Streeting, who publicly declared that he has lost confidence in Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
In his resignation letter to Starmer, Streeting writes that, despite his positive results in managing the British healthcare system, he can no longer remain in government.
" I have lost confidence in your leadership and have concluded that it would be dishonest and unprincipled to continue in office ," he declares.
The resignation is considered a serious blow to Starmer, as Streeting was seen as one of the most powerful figures in the cabinet and a name with great influence within the Labour Party.
In his political attack, the former minister warns that Starmer will not lead the party in the next parliamentary elections and calls for a new leadership contest.
“ It is now clear that you will not lead the Labour Party at the next election,” Streeting writes, adding that MPs and unions are seeking “a battle of ideas, not personal clashes .”
He blames Starmer's leadership for the government's decline in popularity after poor results in last week's local elections and warns of the growing influence of the populist party "Reform UK".
" When vision is needed, we have a vacuum. When direction is needed, we have uncertainty ," he writes, also criticizing the way Starmer has handled critical voices within the party.
According to British media, Streeting is expected to challenge Starmer himself for the leadership of the Labour Party, although he does not officially announce his candidacy in his resignation letter.
His resignation increases pressure on the British prime minister at a time when the government is facing internal discontent and declining public support.
