Another person close to Vladimir Putin has lost his life in mysterious circumstances.
Russian media are reporting on the death of the former commander of the Eastern Military District and the former Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Gennady Zhidko.
From May to July 2022, Zhidko commanded the invasion group of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
Russian media reports that information about the death was announced by the governor of Khabarovsk, Mikhail Degtyarev on Telegram.
Zhidko reportedly died in Moscow after a long illness, writes dailymail.
In 2016, Zhidko commanded the forces of the Russian army in Syria. Two years later, he became commander of the Eastern Military District of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
From November 2021 to July 2022, he was Deputy Minister of Defense – Head of the Main Military-Political Department of the Russian Army.
In early June 2023, Zhidko was appointed commander of all Russian military forces in Ukraine.
