Wagner is registered as an educational organization in Belarus

The Russian mercenary group Wagner is registered in the Belarusian Mahilju region as an "educational organization".

According to the website of the State Register of Companies and Individual Entrepreneurs of Belarus, Wagner was officially registered on August 4 as a limited company engaged in "educational activities" with headquarters in Tsel.

The village is believed to be the same one where Wagner's troops were stationed in Belarus, after the suppression of a rebellion in Russia on June 23-24.

Two weeks ago, Radio Free Europe provided pictures from the Planet Labs platform showing fortifications near Wagner's tents in Tsel.

Planet Labs previews have revealed the increased number of devices near the camp.

Last month, Wagner's leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, released a video from Belarus welcoming his fighters and saying they would help turn the Belarusian army into the second best in the world.

It is not yet known exactly what will happen to Prigozhin and Wagner's troops since the end of the rebellion, the biggest threat in the 23-year rule of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Belarus's authoritarian leader, a close Putin ally, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, has been involved in talks to end the rebellion, brokering a deal between Prigozhin and Putin to admit Wagner and Prigozhin to Belarus.

Prigozhin is suspected of having been to Russia several times since the rebellion and is believed to be moving between the two countries.

Wagner's troops have played a key role in Russia's war in Ukraine, helping to capture part of Bahmut after nearly 10 months of intense fighting.

Prigozhin said that he lost 20,000 soldiers during the operation in Bahmut.
