"Traitor, crazy", Trump starts the battle with the close Republican

The disagreements between Donald Trump and Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene have turned into a public clash, signaling a breakdown in relations between the American President and his most ardent ally.

On Friday, Trump called Greene "crazy" in social media posts and said she should be removed from office in next year's election. On Saturday, he called her a "traitor."

In recent days, Greene has questioned whether Trump was still putting "America First" and criticized his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

The clash comes as the House of Representatives is expected to consider whether to release the files to the public.

"I see 'Crazy Marjorie' complaining, complaining, complaining," Trump wrote, claiming she turned on him after he suggested she not run for governor or senator in her home state of Georgia.

"She has told many people that she is upset that I no longer return her calls," Trump said, adding: "I cannot take a call from a Lunatic who complains every day."

He vowed to support any Republican opponent she faces in next year's midterm elections, when she will run for re-election, before intensifying his attacks in social media posts on Saturday from his home in Florida.

"Marjorie 'Traitor' Green is a disgrace to our great Republican party," he wrote.

The comments come after days of criticism from Greene, who has said Trump is not doing enough to lower costs for voters. She also denounced his recent decisions on foreign conflicts and tariff policies.

But she has been more critical of his approach to handling the Epstein files.

The turnaround is remarkable for a lawmaker who stood by Trump during numerous scandals, most notably in the 2021 Capitol riots, when Trump supporters stormed the U.S. legislature in an attempt to block Trump's electoral defeat.

The US president also strongly defended Greene when she was accused of promoting anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.

Greene is one of only four House Republicans who joined Democrats in signing an impeachment petition calling for the release of the Epstein files last week.

On Friday, Greene posted on X that Trump was trying to stop other Republicans from voting in favor of the petition for Epstein.

"He is attacking me with force to set the right example to scare all other Republicans before they vote next week on the release of the Epstein files," she wrote, adding: "It is truly astonishing how hard he is fighting to stop the release of the Epstein files, how much he is reaching this level."

She returned to X on Saturday to say that Trump had made her a target for threats "instigated and instigated by the most powerful man in the world."

"As a Republican who overwhelmingly votes for President Trump's bills and agenda, his aggression against me is completely shocking to everyone," she wrote.

"I do not worship or serve Donald Trump," she wrote in a post, adding "I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my GA14 district and the American people."

Former Republican pollster and strategist Robert Moran said it was clear the US president did not want the Epstein files released and was "trying to put pressure" on Greene.

Moran doubted whether the debate would affect Trump's popularity since the electorate was so divided, but said it was inevitable that the files would eventually come to light.

"Many of his voters are skeptical of the government and therefore want the government to be held accountable, and support the publication of these files," he added.
