Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said he had a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian regarding recent developments in the region.
In a public response, Sharif stressed that "Pakistan remains committed to serving as an honest and sincere mediator, working tirelessly to advance lasting peace and sustainable stability in the region."
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump canceled the US delegation's trip to Islamabad at the last minute, signaling difficulties in progressing negotiations with Iran for a ceasefire.
In a statement to Fox News, Trump said he saw no reason to continue diplomatic efforts at this stage: "I told my people who were preparing to leave: 'No, you're not going to take an 18-hour flight to get there. We have all the cards. They can call us whenever they want, but you're not going to take any more long flights to talk about anything.'"
The American delegation was expected to be led by White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, along with Jared Kushner, with the aim of developing contacts with Iranian representatives to advance towards a ceasefire in the developing conflict.
