US President Donald Trump has called himself a "war hero" over his decision to order airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
He added that Netanyahu is also a war hero, having worked together. Speaking in a radio interview, Trump defended his decision to launch strikes on Iran's underground nuclear facilities in June, with the aim, he claimed, of eliminating Tehran's program.
“Netanyahu is a war hero because we worked together. I think I am too. Nobody cares. I sent those planes,” Trump said, referring to his order to bomb heavily fortified Iranian nuclear facilities during Israel’s 12-day conflict with Iran in June.
He went on to claim that the US had eliminated Iran's nuclear capabilities, which he said they would have used against Israel in two seconds if they had had the chance.
The president has claimed several times in recent months that Israeli and American attacks on Iran destroyed its nuclear capabilities, comparing them to the bombs dropped on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War II.
Trump has never fought in a real war, nor has he served in the military.
