US President Donald Trump has expressed deep surprise at the behavior of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that he is "very surprised" and that he believes Putin is "misinformed" about the course of the war in Ukraine.
Asked if he thought Putin had territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine, Trump replied: "It's possible. But one thing I know: he would like to close this. It's become a mess for him."
The US president continued to mention conflicts that, according to him, the US has resolved earlier, such as the recent India-Pakistan clash, adding: "This war should have been ended long ago."
At the same conference, Trump was asked if he was backing away from the maximum pressure campaign on Iran, following signals of easing economic sanctions.
Trump responded that he was “not backing down from pressure,” but added that Iran needed “money and trade to rebuild” after the war with Israel. He has often mentioned selling U.S. oil to China as an alternative to Iranian oil, but stressed that he “wouldn’t want to do that,” hinting that he might welcome Iran’s return to global trade.
However, Trump's stance on Iran remained confusing, as in response he moved from one topic to another without giving a clear position.
