US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that Iran is very close to an agreement that will lead to the country's nuclear disarmament.
Answering questions from reporters in the Oval Office after signing an executive order, Trump repeated his claim that Tehran is ready to agree not to develop nuclear weapons.
"They are very close to signing a document. In fact, we have been getting along very well with them. It takes two to tango ," the US President said.
Trump underlined that the success of peace negotiations between the US and Iran depends on the willingness of both sides to make concessions.
Trump reiterated his desire to secure Iran's enriched uranium, which is held deep in its nuclear plants.
"As things stand now, we're going to get into that at some point in the not-too-distant future. It's very difficult to find that material, but I still want it ," the US president told reporters.
Trump SAID he would not authorize US forces to carry out the operation while still in conflict with Iran.
" When it's over, from this moment on, it's been agreed that we will go in with them, take it and destroy it ," he added.
The statements come at a time of high tension, where the Trump administration has combined strong economic pressure with diplomatic signals for a new agreement, tougher than the 2015 one. The president has repeatedly insisted that a peaceful solution is possible, but only if Iran shows a real willingness to compromise.
