US President Donald Trump said the US would not allow Iran to keep its stockpile of enriched uranium, while hinting that military tensions could return very soon. In parallel, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke of diplomatic "progress" but warned that Washington also has "other options".

United States President Donald Trump has issued strong statements against Iran, warning that Washington will not allow Tehran to keep its stockpile of enriched uranium and hinting that the conflict could return in the coming days.

During a statement to reporters, Trump said that the US intends to take control of Iran's enriched uranium reserves, stressing that they pose an unacceptable threat.

" We'll take it. We don't need it. We don't want it. We'll probably destroy it after we take it. But we're not going to let them keep it ," Trump declared.

The US president's statement comes at a time of high tensions in the Middle East and just days after speculation about new negotiations between the US and Iran regarding the nuclear program.

Trump also hinted that next weekend could bring another military escalation with Iran. He even said he might not attend his son's wedding because of the situation.

" I have something called Iran ," he told reporters.

Another issue Trump touched on was the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil shipping corridors. The US president declared that the US will not allow Iran to impose tariffs or controls on passage through this international sea route.

" We want Hormuz to be open. We want it to be free. We don't want tariffs. It's an international waterway and there are no tariffs there ," Trump said.

He also claimed that the US blockade on Iran is causing Tehran losses of around $500 million a day by hindering exports through southern waters.

" No ship has passed without our approval. The US Navy has done an extraordinary job. No ship is going to or leaving Iran without our approval ," the US president declared.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio earlier stated that there are "some positive signs" in efforts to reach an agreement with Iran, but warned that there should be no excessive expectations.

" I believe we've made some progress, but we're dealing with a somewhat fragmented system, the Iranian system ," Rubio said from Miami.

According to him, Donald Trump's priority remains reaching a good diplomatic agreement with Iran, but Washington is prepared for other scenarios if the talks fail.

" If we don't get a good deal, the president has made it clear that there are other options. I won't go into detail about what they are, but everyone knows, " Rubio said.

He also warned Iran against any attempt to impose tariffs or restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, calling such action "unacceptable and illegal."

" Nobody in the world is in favor of a tariff system in Hormuz. It cannot happen. It would make a diplomatic agreement impossible and would be a threat to the entire world ," the US diplomat declared.
