US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to China regarding the military assistance that China is suspected of providing to Iran during the US-Israeli war.
The head of the White House answered a question regarding the possibility of sending air defense from Beijing.
"If you send weapons to Iran, China will have big problems," was Trump's response to a reporter's question about media reports that Beijing is preparing to supply Tehran with new air defense systems within the next few weeks.
A few days ago, CNN reported that United States intelligence has information that China is preparing to send new air defense systems to Iran within the next few weeks, in a development that could significantly affect the security balance in the Middle East.
CNN, citing three people familiar with the latest US intelligence assessments, reports that Beijing is suspected of organizing ways to carry out these shipments through third countries, in order to mask their origin and avoid direct international attention.
According to the same sources, these are short-range anti-aircraft missile systems, known as MANPADs, which are used for air defense at close distances and could strengthen Iran's military capabilities on the ground.
The report comes at a sensitive diplomatic moment, with the United States and Iran expected to hold high-level talks in Islamabad on Saturday, aimed at finding a solution to reduce tensions and avoid escalating the six-week-old conflict.
According to CNN, these developments could add pressure on negotiations and further complicate diplomatic efforts, at a time when the region remains tense and at high risk of further escalation.
