The US vice president explained that the Iranians refused to accept Washington's "conditions", including "a clear commitment from them that they will not seek to acquire nuclear weapons".

US Vice President JD Vance has announced that marathon talks with Iran did not lead to an agreement to finally end the war.

It was 6:30 a.m. at the Serena Hotel in the Pakistani capital when US Vice President JD Vance appeared before the American press to deliver the news.

His remarks were short, concise, and rather vague. Essentially, the head of the delegation, with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner at his side, announced the failure of negotiations with Iran after only one day in the field.

"They chose not to accept our terms ," said JD Vance, in a statement that spoke volumes about the Trump administration's approach. After forty days of fighting, he had expected an Iranian surrender, while Tehran, despite its human and material losses, felt emboldened in its asymmetrical war, a battle of the weak against the strong.

"We've been in talks for 21 hours and we've had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians. That's the good news. The bad news is we didn't reach a deal," he said. "And I think that's more bad news for Iran than it is for the United States. So we're going back to the United States without a deal," Vance said.

Vice President JD Vance said Iranian negotiators refused to accept US terms for a deal, which he insisted had been "quite flexible".

“We were quite cooperative. The president told us, ‘You have to come here in good faith and make your best effort to reach an agreement.’ We did that and, unfortunately, we were unable to make any progress,” he said.

Vance suggested that the main point of disagreement was Iran's refusal to give up its nuclear program.

“We leave here with a very simple proposal, a way of understanding that is our final and best offer,” he said. “We’ll see if the Iranians accept it.”

Iran's reaction

Iran's Tasnim news agency said that "the ball is in America's court" and that "Iran is in no hurry" to negotiate.

"Iran has presented reasonable proposals in the negotiations. The ball is in America's court to look at issues realistically," the source said.

The source accused the United States of miscalculating in the negotiations, just as they had done in the war, and warned that nothing would change in the Strait of Hormuz "until the United States agrees to a reasonable deal."

Iran, the source added, "is in no hurry."

According to Iran, the US must give up "excessive and illegal demands"
"The progress of the negotiations taking place in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, to end the war in the Middle East depends on whether the United States will give up its "excessive and illegal" demands," an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said in the early hours of the morning.

"The success of this diplomatic process depends on the seriousness and good faith of the other party, the absence of any excessive and illegal demands, and the acceptance of Iran's legitimate rights and interests," Esmail Baghaei stressed via X.
