United States President Donald Trump stated that NATO could be involved in operations in the Strait of Hormuz, at a time when tensions with Iran remain high and the situation in the region is considered fragile.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump described the final phase of talks with Iran as "very friendly," but at the same time warned of the possibility of military intervention.
"We will block the Strait of Hormuz, it will take some time," he declared, adding that operations to clear the area of naval mines are expected to be carried out within a short period.
According to him, allied countries could also be involved in this operation. Trump mentioned NATO, the United Kingdom and other countries, which are expected to contribute naval assets to guarantee security at this strategic point.
The US president also claimed that a warning he made on social media had influenced the return of Iranian negotiators to the negotiating table, putting pressure on Tehran.
He stressed that the Iranian side has not withdrawn from the negotiations and expressed his belief that a deal is possible. "I predict that they will come back and give us everything we want," Trump said.
Recent developments have raised concerns about a possible escalation of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important corridors for global energy transport.
