President Donald Trump said today that Iran has approached him in hopes of reaching a deal to end the war. He said they called him to ask how they could make a deal.
"They're calling me, they're saying, 'How can we make a deal?' I said, 'You're taking a little while and we want to fight now more than they do,'" Trump said at the White House.
The comments came as Trump celebrated US progress so far, claiming the military continues to completely destroy the enemy. He did not specify who on the Iranian side had been in contact, or whether this had prompted any serious efforts to broker a ceasefire.
CNN reported on Wednesday that Iranian intelligence has sent word to the United States that it may be prepared to open talks on how to end the war, according to people familiar with the indirect messages.
US officials say there are no negotiations underway and that potential "exits" are unlikely to materialize in the short term.
