The Israeli military announced that it has detected a new wave of missiles launched from Iran towards Israel, while air defense systems have been activated to intercept them.
"A short time ago, the army identified missiles launched from Iran towards the territory of the state of Israel. Defense systems are operating to intercept the threat," the Israeli army statement said.
The new attacks come as clashes between Iran and Israel continue to escalate and are increasingly involving more Middle Eastern countries.
At the same time, analysis of satellite imagery from several military bases in the Arabian Peninsula suggests that Iran may be trying to weaken the air defense systems of US allies by hitting US-made radars used to detect missiles and drones.
According to a CNN analysis, buildings housing similar radar systems have been hit at two locations in the United Arab Emirates, although it remains unclear whether the equipment was damaged.
Another target was the radar of an American THAAD system in Jordan, which according to satellite images appears to have been hit and destroyed during the first days of joint US and Israeli attacks against Iran.
The radar was located at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, more than 800 kilometers from Iran. The radar is a key element of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system, which is used to intercept and destroy ballistic missiles as they fly toward their targets.
According to data from the US Missile Defense Agency, the radar for this system alone costs nearly $500 million.
Experts emphasize that damage to the radar does not render the THAAD system completely unusable, as it can operate with other support configurations, but such a strike significantly reduces the capacity and flexibility of air defense in the region.
