In the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump welcomed FIFA President Gianni Infantino, hailing it as a historic moment for football. Trump said the World Cup, which will be held in the summer of 2026 in the United States, Canada and Mexico, will be the "biggest" in the tournament's history.
He noted that the tournament is expected to generate $30 billion for the U.S. economy and create 200,000 jobs, then laughed with Infantino about the possibility of those figures. The U.S. president also praised Infantino, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while saying that ticket sales are breaking “unprecedented” records.
Infantino announced that a "FIFA Pass" would allow fans to obtain expedited visas to attend matches in the United States, while Rubio warned that possession of a ticket does not guarantee a visa and that applications should be made as soon as possible. Similar measures have been used at previous World Cups to facilitate fan travel.
