US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, December 7, that he would have a role in the decision on the $72 billion deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery. He warned that the merger of these two entertainment industry giants could raise concerns about market concentration.
"I will be involved in that decision," Trump told reporters as he arrived at the Kennedy Center for the annual awards ceremony.
As Reuters writes, Netflix agreed on Friday to buy the television, film studios and streaming division of Warner Bros Discovery for $72 billion, a deal that would give control of one of Hollywood's most valuable assets to the online streaming pioneer.
Trump did not say whether he was in favor of approving the deal, but highlighted the risk of a concentration of market power in the entertainment industry.
"That's what some economists will say... But it's a big part of the market. It could definitely be a problem," Trump said.
