The latter was very confident in what he had said, as he emphasized that the words he said during the meeting in Paris were considered and well thought out.
" These are very serious topics. Every word of mine on this issue is weighed, thought and calculated ," he told reporters during the inauguration of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris .
At the same time, the head of state refrained from any "geopolitical comments" in this regard, calling against mixing the Ukraine issue with other topics.
Macron's failure to retract these statements raises doubts that a plan to send NATO soldiers to Ukraine exists, or is being worked on.
This was also confirmed by the French Foreign Minister, Stéphane Sejourne, who suggested that Western countries consider the idea of deploying NATO troops to Ukraine in non-combat roles to help Ukraine.
Sejourne said yesterday in the French parliament that NATO troops could potentially be deployed in Ukraine to help with roles such as "demining, cyber operations or weapons production," France 24 reports .
The latter's statements come after Macron proposed on February 26 at a meeting in Paris, where representatives of about 20 Western countries discussed further support for Ukraine in the conflict with Russia, the possibility of sending ground troops of Western countries to Ukraine.
He emphasized that no consensus has been reached, but such a scenario cannot be ruled out in the future.
After the conference, representatives of most of the participating countries said that they had no intention of sending troops to Ukraine and were against their participation in military operations against Russia.
