Turkish authorities have arrested 178 people on terrorism charges, just days before the NATO Summit, the state-run Anadolu agency reported, citing the Ankara Prosecutor's Office.
The arrests come after a series of operations conducted this week, on the eve of the summit to be held on July 7 and 8, where 32 world leaders are expected to participate, including US President Donald Trump.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, out of 225 people initially detained, 178 have been officially arrested, while 34 have been released with restrictive measures. The procedures for the rest are still ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Turkish organization Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) announced that journalists, academics, lawyers, trade unionists, teachers, students and other representatives of civil society are among those arrested.
