The President of the Republic, His Excellency Bajram Begaj, hosted today a meeting with representatives of the Interreligious Councils of Europe, who are in Tirana as part of the European Forum "Shared Sacred Flourishing".
During the meeting, President Begaj praised the importance of the forum as a platform for strengthening interfaith dialogue and promoting peace, understanding and cooperation between religious communities in Europe.
The Head of State emphasized that "Albania is a model of harmony, interfaith coexistence, and hospitality. These values are part of our identity and I hope that, during your stay, you will experience them closely," the President said during his conversation with representatives of the Interfaith Councils.
President Begaj also emphasized that Albanian society, as the bearer of these values, managed to survive the darkest times of faith:
"Although the dictatorial regime declared Albania the first atheist country in the world, demolished cult objects or changed their destination, it failed to destroy Albanians' faith in God," continued President Begaj.
The Head of State also focused on the value that respecting the beliefs of others has for Albanian society.
President Begaj praised the role of the Interreligious Council of Albania in promoting dialogue and cooperation between religious communities.
At the end of the meeting, the President emphasized that, at a time when the world faces numerous challenges, polarization and conflicts, interfaith dialogue remains an important instrument for building bridges of trust, solidarity and peace.
In this spirit, added President Begaj, Albania continues to make its contribution, promoting the unique model of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.
