Turkey has submitted a letter to the United Nations, signed by 52 countries and two organizations, in which it requests a ban on arms shipments to Israel.
At a press conference in Djibouti, where he was participating in a Turkey-Africa partnership summit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan, announced the delivery of the letter to the media.
" We have written a joint letter calling on all countries to stop selling arms and ammunition to Israel. We submitted this letter, which has 54 signatures, to the UN on November 1 ," said Hakan Fidan.
Among the signatories are Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Algeria, China, Iran and Russia, while the two organizations are the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
" We must repeat in every case that selling arms to Israel means participating in its genocide ," Fidan said, adding that the letter was "an initiative initiated by Turkey."
In October, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also called on the UN to impose an arms embargo on Israel. He explained that it would be an "effective solution" to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
