Israeli forces have repeatedly carried out operations at hospitals in Gaza since the start of the war, saying the militant group Hamas uses them as military bases.
Dr. Munir al-Boursh, director general of the Hamas-run Gaza Ministry of Health, told the Associated Press news agency that a drone struck the Sheikh Radwan clinic in Gaza City just minutes after a United Nations delegation left the facility.
The World Health Organization and the UN children's agency, known as UNICEF, which are jointly running the polio vaccination campaign, expressed concern over the reported attack.
But Israeli Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani rejected these claims, saying that "the Israeli army did not carry out any attack in that area at the time it is claimed."
A campaign to vaccinate children with the second dose of the polio vaccine was launched in Gaza on Saturday, while the first case in nearly 25 years was reported in the territory. Israel's war in Gaza has killed more than 43,000 Palestinians since October 7, 2023, when a terrorist attack by Hamas militants killed 1,200 people in Israel and took about 250 hostages.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces captured a senior Hezbollah leader in northern Lebanon, an Israeli military official said, as the conflict between the Iran-backed militant group and Israel looks set to see no let-up.
Lebanese authorities said they were investigating whether Israel was behind the capture of a Lebanese captain who, according to a security camera video, was taken away by a group of soldiers near the northern city of Batroun.
The operation marks the first time Israel has announced that its troops have gone deep into northern Lebanon to capture a senior Hezbollah operative since the conflict between the two sides escalated in late September.
Hezbollah began firing rockets and drones from Lebanon into Israel in solidarity with the war in Gaza, which began shortly after the October 7, 2023 attack by the militant group Hamas on Israel, which also triggered the war.
