"As global power competition unfolds in our region, Turkey is directly affected by every development and does not have the "luxury of watching it from the stands," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Thursday.
Erdogan said that Turkey must be prepared for every possible scenario and manage events in the region in a way that benefits our country.
Further, he said that Turkey is located at the heart of three continents, offering unique strategic opportunities, but also facing its own challenges.
"During the days when foreign powers announce their intentions to divide our region with new maps, we must harmonize our policies accordingly. With God's permission, we will not allow the Zionists to carry out new operations in our region," he said.
Regarding Syria, Erdogan said Turkey did "what was right, moral and conscientious" in the neighboring country.
Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime in December, some 133,000 of "our Syrian guests have returned voluntarily and honorably" to their homeland, Erdogan said.
"The number of our brothers and sisters who have returned safely to Syria has reached 873,000. As order and stability in Syria are strengthened, we hope that this number will increase. As I mentioned before, we will not force anyone, but we will provide the necessary facilitation for our brothers and sisters who wish to return," Erdogan said.
Pointing to the anti-terrorism efforts, Erdogan said Ankara is "closer than ever" to "permanently and finally liberating the nation from terrorism that has exploited people's blood, lives and resources for 40 years."
A similar situation is seen in Gaza, where, despite all the pressure from the "global Zionist lobby during the 471-day genocide and massacre," Erdogan said that Ankara courageously stood by its "brothers and sisters."
"Turkey is one of the few countries that passed the test of humanity in Gaza with its head held high. Today, while many countries cannot look the Palestinian people in the face, we are honored by the sincere prayers of our brothers and sisters from Gaza. In the Russia-Ukraine war, we again faced similar choices. While almost everyone was urging war, we stood for peace. Now, you see, almost everyone who criticized us in the past is now forced to accept the balanced policies of our government. Be they our rivals or our friends, almost everyone is recognizing that Turkey made a very correct and far-sighted move at a critical time," the Turkish president said.
