Democratic US Senator Robert Menendez and his wife are facing three federal charges of corruption, bribery, conspiracy to commit extortion. The senator and his wife are accused of receiving cash, gold bars, a luxury car and money to pay off a mortgage loan from three Egyptian businessmen in exchange for services aimed at enriching the businessmen.
The authorities have already "frozen" the assets, which they consider to be the proceeds of bribery. The defendants will appear before the court on September 27. Until the trial ends, Menendez will not be able to chair the powerful Senate International Affairs Committee. This is the second time the US senator has been accused of bribery. He was acquitted in 2015.

I remain committed to continuing this work important. I call on my friends and supporters and the community that supports us in general to wake up. We remember that prosecutors have been wrong on other occasions. I am convinced that this case will be successfully resolved, "he said .
