Ukraine carried out an overnight drone strike on a Kremlin military airport near the city of Volgograd and announced the capture of another village in Russia's Kursk region, as Russian forces continued their advance into the Donetsk region.
The governor of Volgograd, Andrei Bocharov, has said that the attack took place around 3:00 am, The Guardian reports.
Residents reported a series of explosions.
Ukraine's SBU security service said it had carried out a remote attack against the Marinovka air base, about 70 km west of Volgograd, near the town of Kalach-na-Donu.
The base is home to around 30 Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets. The planes carry out regular bombings against Ukrainian positions on the front line, the SBU has informed the "Kyiv Independent" newspaper. It is not yet known how many planes have been damaged or destroyed.
