Citizens demand the resignation of Prime Minister Erald Kapri: Rama refuses

"Mundësia" Party MP Erald Kapri has commented on the popular resistance to overthrow the Rama government, emphasizing that the massive protest that has been going on for 47 days is a purely civic and non-partisan movement.

According to him, the non-negotiable demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama is entirely legitimate in the face of the government's numerous scandals.

Kapri explained that the strength of this protest lies in the fact that it was not called or organized by political parties, but rather stemmed directly from the revolt of citizens, who have clearly expressed their demands for a radical change in the country.

"This is the first political, non-partisan civic protest. It was not called by a political party. The demand for Rama's resignation is political and it would pave the way for other processes that have been conceived in the square. It is not sacrilege to demand the resignation of a prime minister who is no longer legitimate, who is involved in corruption, has affairs and governs the poorest people in Europe," the MP told "News 24".

According to the MP from the "Mundësia" Party, the prime minister's refusal to relinquish power is related to his great fear of accountability before the new justice institutions.

"Resignation would be the easiest path for Edi Rama. He refuses to give it because he is afraid of what might come after. I do not see him being immune to the corrupt affairs that have had his permission and approval during his government. He is fighting with flesh and soul because he is afraid of his political fate and especially facing justice," declared Kapri.

At the end of his speech, Kapri condemned the language used by the head of government towards the protesters, as well as the police's attempts to put pressure on the mass of people who fill the squares every day.

"Rama told them that the citizens are Greeks, Iranians, Serbs, he even called them 'sorrows'. The police have put pressure on them, but again the people are not afraid and are standing. This protest will make Albania a member of the EU, not Edi Rama," concluded Erald Kapri.
