
Ukrainian and Russian officials who participated in direct talks in Istanbul today agreed in principle to meet again for negotiations aimed at reaching a ceasefire, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced.
Fidan, who led the talks between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators, stated in a post on the X platform that both sides agreed to exchange 1,000 prisoners of war each, as part of confidence-building measures.
According to the Turkish minister, both sides will present to each other in writing the conditions for a ceasefire. Hakan Fidan called the meeting an "important day for global peace."
"As a result of intensive diplomatic efforts, the delegations of Russia and Ukraine met in Istanbul, with the mediation of Turkey ," he wrote on social media.
