Another Ukrainian official joins the long list of corruption cases that "reign" in the ranks of the highest levels of Ukraine's political and military leadership, at a time when the country is at war.
Former Defense Minister and current Secretary of the National Security Council, Rustem Umerov, according to the Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Center (AntAC), owns eight properties in the United States.
According to the organization, the assets include three apartments in Florida, one in New York and four villas near Miami. In his 2024 wealth declaration, Umerov stated that his wife Leila and their three children live in the United States.
A rented apartment in Florida with an area of 137.4 square meters is used by Umerov himself and his three children. The second apartment in Florida has an area of 134.5 square meters.
His wife appears to reside there. He provided this address when he renewed his US driver's license in 2019. The third apartment in Florida is 450 square meters, the former minister's father was registered there. The cost of this property is $ 1.2 million, and the rent is estimated at $ 7.2 thousand per month.
In Manhattan, New York, there is an apartment with an area of 90.2 square meters. Rustem Umerov was registered at this address from November 6, 2015 to July 2025, and his brother had also registered this address.
A villa in Florida with an area of 257.1 square meters is registered in the name of his wife, Leila. It was registered at this address from October 10, 2017 to July 2025. The wife’s phone number is linked to the same address. The second villa with an area of 167.2 square meters is registered in the name of the company, from which Umerov’s wife receives an income of more than one million national currencies per year. Another villa was also discovered, for which the company number of his brother is registered. The third villa in Florida has an area of 212 square meters and also belongs to Umerov’s brother.
The National Security and Defense Council did not comment on information regarding the leader's real estate, citing the security of his family.
But they pointed out that part of the property is no longer used by Umerov or his family members.
The revelations did not go unnoticed by the Russian side. Maria Zakharova made a harsh comment on her Telegram channel.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman mocked the "defenders of Europe" after the publication of data on Rustem Umerov's real estate in the United States.
"They made a good profit from 'protecting Europe from the aggressor,'" she wrote ironically.
