An attempt by Ukrainian intelligence agencies to hijack a Russian strategic bomber, recruiting a Russian Air Force pilot in exchange for money, has been blocked by Moscow.
Russia's FSB claims to have foiled Ukraine's attempt to stage the hijacking of a Tu-22M3 strategic bomber and bring it to Kiev.
"Ukrainian intelligence services intended to recruit a Russian Air Force pilot in exchange for monetary compensation and the granting of Italian citizenship to persuade him to fly and land a missile carrier plane in Ukraine," the FSB said in a social media post. .
Reuters was unable to confirm the details from independent sources, while the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Meanwhile, Russian intelligence added that during the operation, Russia received information that helped its forces strike the Ozerne airport in northwestern Ukraine.
It is unclear when the operation took place, as well as the alleged attacks on Ozerne airport in Zhytomyr. Air raid alerts were issued in the Zhytomyr region in the early hours of today.
According to unofficial information on social media, including the Telegram platform, widely used by political and military officials in both countries to transmit information, explosions occurred in Zhytomyr.
