Israeli secret service uses Telegram and social media to contact Iranian citizens and gather information from inside the country

The Israeli secret service Mossad has intensified efforts to contact Iranian citizens through platforms such as Telegram and social media, in an attempt to identify individuals willing to help weaken the Islamic Republic. Links to these channels have also been published on the agency's official website, confirming their authenticity.

According to an AFP report, the initiative includes a Persian-language channel on Telegram, which provides detailed instructions on how to securely contact Mossad. At the same time, an account on the X platform, managed by Israeli intelligence, serves as another means of communication with the Iranian public.

These developments come as Israel and the United States launched a major offensive against Iran on February 28, killing Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and fueling an escalation in the conflict in the region. Tehran has responded with missile and drone attacks on Gulf countries and Israel.

In this context, Israeli leaders have repeatedly addressed Iranian citizens, who a few weeks before the outbreak of the war had organized massive protests, which were subsequently suppressed by the authorities.

The new Telegram channel, created on December 24, contains a welcome message in Persian that says: “If you have reached this far, you may want to contact us. We have the opportunity to collaborate and achieve common goals.”

The message is accompanied by concrete steps for safe communication.

Mossad has used similar methods in other regions. During the conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, Israeli jets dropped propaganda leaflets, while similar tactics were used in Gaza.

The Telegram channel, with around 48,000 followers, published a call on March 6 for sending information from the field: "continue sending your reports. You are the voice of truth. We will continue until victory."

Israeli intelligence expert Yossi Melman told AFP that this is an old practice. "Such activities have been going on for decades, adapting to technology," he said, adding that other agencies such as the CIA have also pursued similar strategies.

About six months before the official Telegram channel opened, an account named "Mossad Farsi" appeared on the X platform, which began its activity immediately after the end of the Iran-Israel war in 2025. This account has amassed over 60 thousand followers.

Its posts include videos from Iranian-born Israeli journalist Menashe Amir, who confirmed to AFP that Mossad is behind the account. He said one of the first videos has reached over 2.2 million views.

The account has also published critical and ironic comments towards the Iranian leadership, as well as various content, including offers for online medical consultations for Iranian citizens.

During the recent protests in Iran, her messages took on a more direct tone, encouraging citizens to take to the streets and emphasizing support for Israel.

After Khamenei's assassination and the appointment of his son Mojtaba as successor, the account reacted by describing the situation as a "king without a kingdom and without a future."

This communications campaign demonstrates a coordinated effort by Mossad to influence public opinion and secure sources of information inside Iran, at a time of high regional tension.
