Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran's parliament, posted on X that Tehran was "closely monitoring all US movements in the region" following reports that Washington will deploy additional troops to the Middle East.
"We are closely monitoring all US movements in the region, especially troop deployments. What the generals have broken, the soldiers cannot fix; instead, they will fall victim to Netanyahu's illusions. Do not test our resolve to defend our land," the Iranian parliament speaker wrote.
This comes after reports from the Associated Press and the New York Times that the US could send 1,000 or 2,000 troops to the Middle East to join the 50,000 soldiers already there. About 4,500 Marines are already on their way to the region, according to reports.
The Pentagon is planning to deploy about 3,000 soldiers from the Army's elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East to support operations against Iran, according to two U.S. officials. A written order is expected to be issued in the coming hours.
According to US media, officials stressed that no decision has yet been made on whether to deploy troops on the ground in Iran. However, the deployment of the 82nd Division gives President Donald Trump several strategic options.
Meanwhile, Iran has intensified its attacks in the Middle East, hitting Israel, as well as Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia with new attacks.
Officials in Tehran express concern that diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire could be a trap.
The escalation of fighting comes a day after Trump said the US military would delay strikes on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, following what he called "productive" talks with Tehran. Iran's Foreign Ministry denied the country was in talks with the US.
