NATO Secretary General Jean Stoltenberg has spoken about the Wagner uprising. In the Netherlands, he had a meeting with the heads of government of several member states, where he was asked whether Prigozhin's placement in Belarus could be a threat to his native countries.
Stoletenberg said it was not yet known where the forces of the Wagner group would be deployed, but did not rule out the possibility that they would follow Prigozhin to Belarus. He emphasized that NATO is ready to strengthen the defense in the eastern flank.
" It is too early to say where these forces will end up. It is too early to make a final judgment about the consequences given the fact that Prigozhin has moved towards Belarus. There are forces that some of the forces follow in Belarus. We will make sure that we are ready to protect every NATO ally, especially those bordering Belarus. Even with the invasion of Ukraine, we doubled the military presence in the eastern part. We have the readiness, the plan, our forces and the commitment to defend any NATO territory against any adversary, and this goes for Moscow and Minsk. Otherwise we don't know yet where Wagner's forces will stabilize ," Stoltenberg said.
