
A powerful earthquake centered in Myanmar shook Southeast Asia on Friday, killing hundreds of people in that country, according to state media, and toppling buildings over a wide area.
The quake also hit Thailand, where rescue teams in the capital Bangkok were searching through the rubble of a tower block that was under construction and collapsed. According to the rescue operation, 117 people were missing and five dead after the building collapsed.

At least 144 people in Myanmar have been killed and 732 injured by a major earthquake that struck the country on Friday, according to state media reports.
The figure is expected to increase drastically in the coming hours and, according to preliminary estimates, could reach around 10,000 victims.

Local authorities are currently on the ground working to pull survivors from the rubble, while countries such as the US and EU countries have offered their willingness to help the country in this difficult situation.
