European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Von der Leyen stressed the urgent need for a negotiated solution in the confrontation with Iran and a reduction in tensions in the Middle East.
It is also learned that Von der Leyen also spoke about the situation in the Gaza Strip, describing it as "unacceptable" from a humanitarian point of view, while urging Netanyahu to have restraint and full access to humanitarian aid.
"I reaffirmed our commitment to peace, stability, and diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation. In this context, I emphasized that Israel has the right to defend itself."
"Iran is the main source of regional instability. But it is essential that Iran is never allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. A diplomatic solution must be found as soon as possible," Von der Leyen wrote on the social network X.
