Israeli authorities announced the killing of a leader of a Hamas terrorist network in the West Bank city of Jenin by undercover Border Police officers.
The incident occurred as the Israeli military announced that it was expanding its ongoing counter-terrorism operation to other neighborhoods in Jenin, in the northern West Bank. It is worth noting that the Israeli army's mechanized units are already operating in these areas, indicating a possible escalation of the conflicts.
According to the announcement as part of this expanded operation this morning, Border Police officers in cooperation with IDF troops attempted to arrest the commander of the Hamas terrorist network in Jenin, Ishar Saadi, following information about his location provided by the Shin Bet intelligence service.
During a shootout, Saadi and another gunman were killed, while three wanted Palestinians were arrested, according to the IDF, police and Shin Bet.
During searches of the building where Saadi was hiding, troops found an assault rifle, a pistol and several other weapons.
In a separate incident in the same area, another gunman was killed during an exchange of fire, the IDF added.
