Italian mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro planned to kill the maternal grandmother of his daughter Lorenza. This is revealed by the file in which the judges rejected the request for the release of the mafia boss's girlfriend, teacher Laura Bonafede. The death plan was determined by the clashes between Messina Denaro's ex-partner, Franca Alagna, and the godfather's family.
Clashes which, according to the mafia boss arrested in January of this year, were caused precisely by Filippina Polizzi, Alagna's mother. Jurors uncovered the death plot, which never came to fruition, starting with a December 15, 2022 text message between the then-fugitive and Bonafede, his girlfriend.
The godfather of the Sicilian mafia went to jail on January 16. His capture was considered historic by the authorities as it took the Italian police 30 years to track him down. The peculiarity of his arrest is that it coincides with the same date as the capture of Toto Riina, also 3 decades ago. Matteo Messina Denaro, Toto Riina's replacement, author of thousands of massacres, was found in a private clinic in Palermo, where he was being cured of a tumor.
