The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has declared that if Russia loses the counterattack, it will also lose the war.
For NBC News, the Ukrainian president said that the news from the front lines was "generally positive, but very difficult."
"Our heroic people, our troops on the front lines are facing very tough resistance. Because for Russia to lose this campaign against Ukraine, I would say, it actually means losing the war," said Zelensky.
The interview comes days after the start of a long-awaited counteroffensive aimed at driving Russian President Vladimir Putin's forces out of the occupied territory.
Kiev has claimed victory in the initial stages of the counteroffensive, but has yet to make progress against tough Russian defenses in southern and eastern Ukraine.
