"Voice of the Kremlin" warns NATO: Another special military operation

Russia could soon open a new war front. The threat was voiced by Vladimir Solovyov, the presenter considered the "voice of the Kremlin," who warned on the state-run Russia-1 channel that the invasion of Ukraine "may not be the last special military operation of our generation."

According to Solovyov, the creation of NATO bases in the Caspian Sea area on the border between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation could provoke a Russian reaction. "We must understand that what is happening in the South Caucasus is a big problem," the propagandist declared, emphasizing, in his opinion, the geopolitical risks in Moscow's "backyard."

Solovyov, against whom the European Union and the United Kingdom have adopted sanctions, also commented on the latest developments in the conflict in Ukraine, and in particular the summit planned for Friday (August 15) in Alaska between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump. The war will continue because it is "in the interests of Europeans", the presenter said, expressing strong doubts that the summit between the leaders of the two superpowers could be decisive.

The idea of a conflict between Moscow and Baku, raised by Solovyov, comes as media reports indicate that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is considering lifting a ban on arms supplies to Ukraine. The move was reportedly discussed during a phone call a few days ago between Aliyev and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who condemned Russian attacks against Baku's interests in Ukraine.

Moscow has reportedly recently targeted Ukrainian energy infrastructure linked to Azerbaijan. Between August 8 and 9, Russian forces used Shahed drones in Odessa Oblast to strike a SOCAR depot, Azerbaijan’s state oil company. In late June, Russian forces attacked a gas distribution station near Orlivka, a key section of the Trans-Balkan Pipeline through which, as the Kyiv Independent reports, Azerbaijani gas has begun flowing to Ukraine following an agreement signed in late July.

"These are deliberate attacks not only on these objects, but also on our cooperation," Zelensky said after his phone call with Aliyev.

The President of Azerbaijan, Zelensky continued, "asked me that we will continue to cooperate despite any challenges."

These words underscore the strong economic and energy ties between Kiev and Baku. It is currently unclear what weapons, if any, Azerbaijan might transfer to Ukraine, as its arsenal includes artillery and multiple launch rocket systems, armored vehicles and tanks.

The news of the possible lifting of the military supply ban comes just days after a historic meeting at the White House between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, who signed a deal brokered by US President Donald Trump that aims to end a long period of hostility between the two countries. The agreement envisages the creation of a roughly 40-kilometer transit corridor running through Armenian territory, connecting Azerbaijan with its enclave of Nakhchivan, which is located between Armenia, Turkey and Iran. The agreement also grants the United States 99-year development rights over the corridor, dubbed the "Trump Road to International Peace and Prosperity."

The American diplomatic initiative represents a diplomatic blow to Putin in a strategic area for Moscow, but at least at the official level, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia considers the meeting in Washington between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia as "positive."

More open discontent has been reported in Tehran, which has announced through the mouth of Leader Ali Khamenei's advisor on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, that "Iran will block the creation of the American-backed transport corridor connecting the Republic of Azerbaijan with its enclave, the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan, with or without Russia's support." /Adapted from Il Giornale/
