A fire broke out on the morning of Friday, February 13, in a two-story building in Budapest, specifically in the Budakeszi area. As a result of the flames, three people lost their lives and dozens of others were injured.
The roof of the building, which was used as accommodation for workers, collapsed and the bodies of two men and a woman were found in the rubble. Rescuers also rescued 27 survivors and removed three gas cylinders.
According to the spokesperson for the Pest County Fire Department, "more than 50 professionals and local volunteers arrived with fire trucks as the fire broke out. Firefighters immediately started extinguishing the fire, to prevent its further spread."
The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning and was extinguished shortly thereafter by firefighters, according to Hungary's National General Directorate for Disaster Management.
For her part, the spokeswoman for the Pest County Police Headquarters said that "according to preliminary data, 15 people suffered minor injuries, three serious, four are in critical condition in hospital and three people lost their lives as a result of the fire."
Investigations so far indicate that there may have been some irregularities at the site, possibly including illegal gas supply.
