About 30,000 families have been ordered to evacuate in Canada's British Columbia province, where about 400 fires have been burning.
Officials have restricted travel in Kelowna, a coastal city of 132,000 people that has been engulfed in smoke, as well as several cities in Kamloops, Oliver, Penticton, Vernon and Osoyoos.
Canada is experiencing its worst fire season ever, with at least 1,000 fires burning across the country, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Center (CIFFC), the BBC reports. Experts say climate change increases the risk of hot, dry weather that is likely to fuel wildfires.
Although no deaths have been reported in the recent fires, at least four firefighters have lost their lives during this record season.
